Kolozsvar’s Savoy cabbage

Perfectly healthy, cheap, easy to make and delicious meal of casserole. Great especially for the intestines of little children.

Preparation time 25 minutes .. Baking 45 minutes


  • 1 Savoy cabbage
  • 500 g minced meat
  • 150 g boiled rice
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 300 ml sour cream
  • 1 bigger egg
  • 3 tbsp of breadcrumbs for baking dish
  • 1 tbsp fresh, chopped rosemary
  • oil
  • salt & pepper


Preheat the oven to 180°C.

Boil the rice, drain and let them cool.
Fry the chopped onion and garlic together in a pan with oil until translucent. Then add the minced meat, followed by chopped fresh rosemary, salt and pepper. Bake for about 20 minutes until the meat is tender. Let cool slightly. Once ready mix the rice with the meat and set aside.

Cut the kale into smaller pieces (bite-sized) and blanch for about 3 minutes in boiling, lightly salted water. Strain the cabbage, shock in ice-cold water and pour again him. Let cool slightly.

Grease the baking dish with oil and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Divide half of the carbon on the bottom. Then divide the coals the meat mixed with wicker. As a final divide the meat on the second half of the cabbage.

In a mixing bowl, cream together with egg and season with salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the ingredients in the baking dish, put everything in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes.

Serve with boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes or bread.
