Hungarian goulash

Typical Hungarian specialty of beef, tomatoes and peppers. The Comfort food of the East as it should be.

Preparation time 2 hours


  • 900 g beef
  • 1 big onion
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 50 g butter
  • 400 g meat broth
  • 4 tbsp sweet ground paprika
  • salt & pepper


Melt the butter in a pan and fry the meat. Remove the meat from the pan and keep warm. Add in the gravy finely chopped onion and fry until they become fine. Add pickled peppers with tomatoes (Lecho), tomato puree, the meat, meat broth and season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil, reduce the temperature to minimum, cover with lid and let simmer for at least 1.5 hours.

Serve with dumplings, potatoes or rice and a glass of well-chilled beer.
