Apple compote with Calvados

Specialty which is here in Belgium not prepared like in Slovakia – for young children, but as addition to roast meat, roast sausages and part of festive menus. Therefore, it is less sweet, flavored with spices or dried fruit. And in this case also with a smile wake-up detail.

Preparation time 25 minutes .. Durability 9-12 months


  • 3 pounds appels, peeled, cored and cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3-4 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • good dash of Pommeau de Normandy, or Calvados, or Cognac


Combine all ingredients in a large pot. Cover, and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender, about 30 minutes. Let cool completely.

If you prepare compote for children as an porridge, do it without alcohol and after cooking if necessary add 4 tablespoons soaked oatmeal.
